Depression affects one out of six people in their lifetime. This can be a life-threatening condition, and traditional medications don’t work for everyone.
If you want to feel better without the nasty side-effects that come with your medication, it might be time to look into CBD for depression.
Depression Overview
Depression is probably one of the most debilitating conditions one can go through in their lifetime.
Depression can take the form of a preexisting condition, or can be brought on by an unfortunate event occurring in one’s life. It can cause the following symptoms:
- feeling sad
- loss of interest or pleasure in activities
- changes in appetite
- trouble sleeping
- loss of energy
- feeling worthless
- difficulty thinking
- difficulty with decision making
It is important that depression is dealt with quickly because it can also manifest as physical problems. If left untreated, it may eventually lead to death.
25 million people are estimated to have taken antidepressants for at least 2 years, and yet the symptoms of long term use have been a growing, and unanticipated, trend. This raises the question of what can help?
Does CBD help with depression? The answer to this question is it may. CBD oil may even be more effective than traditional medications.
CBD for Depression
CBD has been shown to assist many people through different conditions, all while not providing the high that has been associated with cannabis use over the past decades.
In medical terms, we have a chemical receptor in our nervous system called CB1 which indirectly interacts with CBD.
It is long believed that depression can be traced to a chemical imbalance in our nervous system, hence why CBD could affect us in a positive way.
Effects In Mice
A test had been performed on mice, and it produced pretty interesting results. There was a near instant improvement on the test subjects treated with CBD.
A group of mice were given varying concentrations of CBD or imipramine. The mice were then were subjected to a swimming test or an open field arena 30 minutes after taking their dose. What the found was that those that were given CBD had greatly reduced immobility time in the swimming test, and did not affect the mices’ behavior in an open field simulation.
The results are that CBD was as effective as imipramine, and with virtually no impairment.
When compared to the potential side-effects of anti-depressants, the difference is clear. Traditional medications can, at times, make the condition worse, or even create new conditions. However, with CBD, there is virtually next to no side-effects. If you are taking a medication that has a contraindication with grapefruit, CBD carries a similar warning, and you should consult your physician before combining CBD with existing medications.
If you think that CBD might help your condition now it comes to choosing a method of consumption.
Best CBD Oil For Depression
There are many different types of CBD products to choose from. It’s best to research when looking for the best method of consumption for you.
Capsules
It’s very easy to get the exact amount of CBD that you want to take when you go with the capsules.
Each capsule is measured with the appropriate number of milligrams of CBD so the amount will always be correct and easily calculable.
It can sometimes be challenging to get this correct when dealing with other methods of consumption.
Dabs and Waxes
CBD dabs and waxes are among the most popular way that people get their daily CBD in.
There is a certain freedom with them where you can take your vape pen around with you anywhere and take your CBD.
As a word of warning if you decide to go with this method you will need to carry around a vape pen that has a chamber to vape dabs. This is a bit tricky because most pens are designed to only vape oils.
CBD Tincture
CBD Tinctures are one of the fastest and easiest ways to get your CBD oil into your system. You simply drip a few drops into your mouth, hold it for a minute, swallow, and you’re good to go!
Like the capsules, it is fairly easy to measure your CBD when taking the oils. Most bottles have a serving size right on the label which is equal to the number of drops you need.
Sometimes there is some wiggle room with how much is best for you. You may have to play with it a little to find out what the best serving size for you is.
The drops can be taken by either being taken straight under the tongue for 90 seconds and swallowed, or can be combined with juices and/or foods to mask the flavor.
Unflavored, or Natural flavored, CBD drops can have a bit of a strong earthy taste to them.
Edibles
Edibles are a very easy way to get your daily intake of CBD. Not to mention a tasty way! Make sure any edible that contains CBD are never taken at over 200 degrees.
CBD can be damaged if it’s over processed or brought to high temperatures.
The benefit to edibles is that they can be quite tasty!
CBD Oil Tubes
CBD oil tubes are really easy to store and ingest. They are unalloyed, meaning they are pure extracts not mixed with anything, unless otherwise specified.
Like all of the other oils and products mentioned here, they can be taken directly into the mouth, put under the tongue for 90 seconds and swallowed, or mixed into other products like a juice or a smoothie, to cover the flavor.
Any of these are lovely and effective methods of consuming CBD. For a full list of products and if you would like to shop around a bit, click here.
