Arthritis is currently the leading cause of disability in the US and over 50 million Americans deal with it every day. That means that one out of every four people suffer with arthritis.

If you have arthritis pain, you already know that some days it can be debilitating. There’s nothing more frustrating than wanting to be able to do the things you used to do, but not being able to because of your arthritis pain.

There are some studies that show that CBD oil could help with improving the pain dealing with arthritis. So, what are the benefits of CBD oil for arthritis pain, and are there any side effects you should be aware of before you use it?

We wrote this article to help give you an inside look at the science behind the benefits, uses, and side effects of CBD oil.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil, or cannabidiol oil, is a type of cannabinoid. This is a chemical found in cannabis plants. It’s not psychoactive, though, because it doesn’t contain THC, which is another natural compound found in cannabis.

This means that CBD oil will not change your mental state or produce a “high” feeling.

There are a lot of different kinds of CBD oil products out there and they all differ in the exact amount of CBD found inside of them as well as the ingredients.

Because cannabis is unjustly classified as a recreational drug, you have probably heard or read about some controversy over the use of products created from the cannabis plant. It’s important that you understand that CBD is harvested from hemp plants, usually, instead of THC-dominant marijuana plants.

While both of these plants are kinds of cannabis plants, hemp plants aren’t bred to have a lot of THC in them. In fact, less than 0.3% THC after it’s dried, post-harvest.

Some people use CBD oil to relieve their chronic pain and lower inflammation. But now there is research that suggests that CBD oil is useful for relieving pain from arthritis.

CBD Oil for Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease where your body attacks your joints, which causes inflammation. This kind of arthritis is commonly known to affect your hands and feet, leading to painful, swollen, and stiff joints.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that affects the cartilage and bones at your joints. This causes pain to the hips, knees, and thumbs.

There are some studies that suggest that CBD could help this pain and relieve the inflammation associated with it.

There was a study done in 2011 on rats that found it changed the way their pain receptors reacted to some stimuli.

However, there isn’t much scientific evidence that conclusively proves that CBD is an effective treatment for humans at this point.

Still, scientists have been encouraged by the findings so far.

CBD Oil and Pain

CBD antagonizes specialized receptors in the brain and immune system. One of these receptors, called the CB2 receptor, plays a role in the management of pain and inflammation in the body.

Scientists believe that CBD can change the way receptors respond to pain signals. There was even a review done in 2008 that suggested that CBD could play a role in managing chronic pain.

Using CBD Oil

CBD oil can come in an oil or a powder. Both of these methods can be used to create creams or gels that are them applied to the skin, over the places that arthritis may be affecting you.

You may also take CBD oil in capsule form, or spray it into your mouth in a CBD tincture.

You should work with your doctor to figure out the best amount of CBD oil for your specific situation. There are some products that contain as little as 1 mg of CBD per serving, while some can contain over 400 mg, and more!

When starting off on your CBD adventure, begin with a small serving so you can see how you and your body reacts. If you don’t notice any benefits, increase the amount you take slowly over the course of a few days, then try the new amount for a couple of days. Repeat if necessary.

Make sure that you get your CBD oil from a provider that you trust and that they provide a complete list of ingredients. This is precisely why we are here!

Side Effects

Fortunately, CBD oil doesn’t usually come with any side effects. Uncommonly, there are some mild things that may happen when you use CBD oil for the first time. These can include things like:

  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Appetite changes

These side effects are atypical and, if they do occur, tend to be very mild. However, if you think CBD oil is causing a problem, stop using it and consider contacting your doctor, or testing the product for possible microbial contamination.

Legality

In the US and over 40 countries worldwide, CBD oil is legal to use. In all of these states, you will not need a doctor’s recommendation before you can buy it from us!

The United States Food and Drug Administration, or the FDA, do not currently consider CBD oil an approved medical treatment.

A Possible Pain Management Solution

While it’s true that there is not enough concrete pieces of evidence surrounding the use of CBD oil for arthritis pain, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a promising product anyway.

Researchers do believe that it affects the receptors in the brain and immune system. And this means that it could reduce your inflammation and pain, which are the two biggest pain points when you are dealing with arthritis.

More research is needed before researchers can conclusively say that CBD oil is absolutely an effective treatment for pain, but if you think you would benefit from giving this innovative, natural oil a shot, visit us today.
